FACET - FSU’s New Effort Reporting System Is On Its Way!

The University began a project in May 2008 to begin the implementation of a new web-based effort reporting system to replace the current OPAR application and paper certification process. Representatives from FSU’s Institution Research department, VP of Research’s office, Sponsored Research Accounting Services (SRAS), the Provost’s Office and ERP have teamed up with our strategic partner, Cedar Crestone, to implement the new streamlined, web-based effort reporting application within the OMNI HR system. The new application will be called FACET – Faculty Assignments, Commitments, and Effort Certification Tracking.

Some of the features of the new system will include:

  • Electronic Workflow Certifications eliminating the need for submission of paper certifications
  • Hyperlinks to supporting data and elimination of unnecessary data elements
  • Improve/create capabilities for tracking committed effort and cost sharing for research
  • A centralized/automated system for tracking of Faculty Assignment of Responsibilities (future phase) that will be integrated with the effort certification application

We are currently in the Testing Phase of the project. The current plan is to begin departmental training on the new system in early March 2009, rolling out the new system for certification of Fall 2008 at the end of March.

In addition, a new training effort is underway, aimed at helping campus gain a better understanding of effort reporting, the university’s requirements and risk associated with it, and dispelling current myths about the process. More details regarding this training are to come, stay tuned!
