2010 HEUG Presentations by ERP Staff

Byron Menchion presented “ Building Trust: The Critical Success Factor (CSF) of a BI Initiative."Launching a successful EPM 9.0/OBIEE reporting application takes more than just building comprehensive data marts, efficient ETL processes, and insightful dashboards. While these are important components of a BI application, building trust of the end users is the most important component of all. Trust is built when the users know the data is accurate, complete, timely and of high quality. Come discover Florida State University’s approach to building trust through data reconciliation reporting, transparency into warehouse operations, and proactive alerting.

Maria Whitaker presented “ Taking Stock: Implementing and Integrating Inventory in 8.9.” FSU implemented the Inventory module for their Office of Telecommunications to improve efficiency in supply chain management through integration with the Maintenance Management, Inventory, and Purchasing modules.

Michael Williams & Dawn Snyder presented “ Vendor Compliance - Implementing and Automating the OFAC Process.” Universities are prohibited from going business with any company, individual, vessel or country that has been sanctioned by U.S. Treasury Department - OFAC. The U.S. Treasury Department provides frequent updates to the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. Failure to comply with OFAC regulations can carry fines up to one million dollars. This presentation will provide an overview of the configurations, security requirements, automating and lessons learned from implementing the OFAC process at Florida State University.

Reggie Gentle & Byron Menchion presented “ Transactional Reporting in the real world with OBIEE.” In this session you’ll learn the tricks of the trade for making OBIEE work with transactional reporting systems. From the formulation of an action plan to the nuts and bolts of repository design. You’ll leave this session dying to get back and implement what some have marketed as unachievable with OBIEE.

Florida State University will follow with a discussion of their implementation experience, tips and tricks, and lessons learned.

David Best presented “ What do you mean, my PO was lost in the mail!?!” Universities deal with a wide range of vendors to meet their diverse needs. Some are close business partners with whom a high volume of orders, invoices and payments are exchanged on a regular basis. Many more are one time vendors. The procurement system must be versatile enough to place orders with all types of vendors in a fast and reliable manner. This presentation will examine the five Purchase Order (PO) dispatch methods that are available in PeopleSoft. Emphasis will be placed on the transmission of documents to vendors, where the efficiencies of electronic requisitioning, workflow, and sourcing automation can be lost if the vendor does not receive a dispatched PO promptly and dependably, or alternatively, the vendor receives more than one copy of a PO and the university must deal with duplicate shipments.

Kelley Barton presented “ UPK Tricks & Tips: How We Make UPK Work for Us!” In this session, we will walk through some hang-ups we have faced when working with UPK and how we have devised unique work-arounds as solutions. These solutions save developers oodles of time and frustration. You’ll be amazed at what we… and you… can do! Watch how we’ve identified a plan to record processes, beginning to end, in just minutes! From there, we’ll share some of our own editing strategies which allow us to personalize UPK topic and expedite the editing process! You may be using UPK, but do you use it like this?

Susan Berry & Roberta McManus presented “ Managing Sponsored Research Financial Data Made Easy as 124!” As a major research institution, FSU greatly depends on research funds to fulfill the strategic mission of the University. Managing the financial operations of Sponsored Research prior to the Sponsored Research Dashboard could be best described as cumbersome and time consuming. The process has transitioned from a PS Query and excel-based solution to a comprehensive exception based Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) tool. This solution improves the ability to manage sponsored projects quickly and efficiently at a department or University wide level.
